The famous Cat House has cut-out metal cats just under the roof, each with a bird in its paws. Apparently a cat belonging to Nathaniel Woodward killed one of Robert Ward’s canaries, so for revenge Ward bought the bird scarers and positioned them all round his house, he thread string through them and attached bells. Then, when Woodward passed, a pulling of the string saw him greeted by a huge ringing of bells to remind him of his cats ‘crime’.
